Personality & Traits
|General Overview||Rowan is an observer by nature. Quiet until the situation demands she not be. When treating the sick or injured she is quick and efficient, relying on her training and instinct to guide her. She doesn't have to think she just acts. As a captain she has a much different outlook. After her first command decision cost the lives of the senior staff and 43 others, Rowan tries to consider all the ramifications for her actions. Most of the time this is a good thing but at times it causes her to wait too long and have the decision made for her.|
|Strengths & Weaknesses||Rowan has an amazing bedside manner. Her mother's blood makes her very sensitive to the needs of her patients and how best to treat them both emotionally and physically. This is one thing that has translated well into her roll as captain. She takes into account not only their immediate needs but their feelings as well. This also is a weakness though as unlike most captains Mack has a harder time staying emotionally detatched, she cares deeply about all life, and believes that her hipocratic oath didn't end when she was made captain. Though she knows she must attack when the situation calls for it, it is never an easy choice for her.
Intelligent. Mack has always been a quick study, now that she is having to learn how to be a captain, this talent is being severely taxed. She is trying to adapt her current mastery of medicine to the jack of all trades a captain should be, but has a tendancy to obcess over one subject rather then move on to the next.
Cute. Being fairly young, petite and fair of face people frequently underestimate her. This obvious double edged sword makes it hard for her to get things done at times as people don't always see her as competent.
|Ambitions||Survive this mission without getting her and her crew run over by the stampeed that is Admiral N.|
|Hobbies & Interests||Yoga, pilaties, Xenobiology and distillery|
|Personal History||Rowan was born into a happy, rather sprawling house in the south of France and raised by her parents along with her paternal grandmother.
As a child when Rowan would ask how her parents met she was always told that the information was classified. They would laugh and change the subject but even as she grew older and eventually joined starfleet Rowan never could find records of how her parents met only of their marriage date.
Her childhood was happy, if uneventful, punctuated by the times her parents were home rather then off working for their respective planets. But the in between time Rowan had her grandmother, also Star Fleet though retired, who loved to tell her of the adventures her father and grandfather had in space.
By the age of 16 Rowan was tired of constantly being left behind and her father was tired of missing his family. After a long discussion it was decided: Rolana would retire from the embassy and she and Rowan would join their father on his new asignment as the XO of the science vessel the USS Hawkings studying the Azure Nebula.
In their first 6 months Rowan fell in love with life in space. She loved the bustle of the ship, the efficiency of their quarters, and most of all the time as a family. It was in this time that Rowan got to know her mother better and learn about her mother's people. She perfected her ability to speak to her mother without speaking aloud and even started working on her limited empathic abilities.
Life was looking up for the young woman until the distress call came. Life on the science vessel hadn't been exactly thrilling, it had been the newness and the time with her parents that made it so. But when the lights started flashing and the civiliians were ordered to their quarters, Rowan had actually been excited. Going to their rooms with her mother but plastering her face to the window for a hint of what was happening.
The Hawking had been the only vessel in range of what appeared to be a Klingon distress call and had responded immediately. But they were ill equipped to deal with the ambush set by the Romulans lurking just within the edge of the nebula they were studying.
The science vessel was disabled within seconds, and critically damaged moments later. Rowan had been thrown from her perch at the window and twisted her ankle nearly breaking it but Rolana had been unhurt. The mother daughter pair went with the other families to the escape pods but the older woman refused to leave without Liam so Rowan waited, alone in the pod while her mother went back.
Thoguh later she would learn that her pod had been launched remotely, at the time Rowan was panic stricken when the pod lurched away from the dying ship with her it's only occupant. With no idea how to pilot the small pod and the pain in her ankle too intense to put weight on, Rowan could only sit and watch as her pod drifted away and the Romulan ship destroyed the Hawkings.
In the split second before the shockwave hit her pod, Rowan only had time to realize that there as no way her parents could have escaped. Then the blast hit her pod, launching it out of control and knocking her unconscious.
When she woke only an hour later, she was in a Klingon sickbay being tended by both the Klingons and what of the medical crew were alive and standing. Of those that had survived she was the worst injured and so garnered a lot of attention. Including that of the captain of the Klingon vessel.
To this day she still remembers the moment she shared with him, as she began crying, not from the physical pain but from the loss of her parents. She was mortified in front of so many who she knew would see her crying as weakness but was surprised when the captain of the ship did not berate her, but simply told her that her parents died with honor.
Shortly after this she was transferred to a federation vessel where she spent a great deal of time in the sickbay while she was being nursed back to health. It was in this time that she fell in love with medicine. She had always intended to enlist in Starfleet, her grandmother and mysterious grandfather had both been officers as had her father. But the doctors and nurses that cared for her intrigued her and when they noticed her interest began telling her more in depth about what they were doing and soon she was helping out in what little ways she could while still confined to bed.
With this training and the help of her grandmother, Rowan was able to enter the academy a year later. In her time at the accademy the young woman excelled, never the top of her class but always within the top 5%.
When she was 23 she returned home for the holidays to celebrate with her grandmother only to discover that her grandmother had a challenge for her. The following day, Thanksgiving, they were expecting 15 guest, all local friends and a few far removed cousins. And for dinner her grandmother had promised them rôti sans pareil or the "incomparable roast" a rare dish that a French chef copied from the Romans.
The rôti was basically Turduken cubed, it consisted of a bustard stuffed with a turkey, a goose, a pheasant, a chicken, a duck, a guinea fowl, a teal, a woodcock, a partridge, a plover, a lapwing, a quail, a thrush, a lark, an ortolan bunting and finally a garden warbler.
The warbler was so small the only thing it could be stuffed with was olive. The birds had all been deboned but Rowan was expected to put the whole thing together using 20th century suturing. Her grandmother had even replicated the curved needle and 3-0 Silk.
